how do i disable recovery and go into safe mode?
the antivirus finds the trojan but the thing is it finds it every time i restore the computer! Once i delete it isn’t it supposed to be gone forever?

Hey everyone. I recently did a full system recovery because Microsoft security essentials found a few Trojans and got rid of them. But I did a full system recovery to make sure it was gone. ( I’ve done it before to get rid of viruses) But I am paranoid and wanted to know if it could steal my steam account and take all my games or something. If MSE removed the viruses and I did a full system recovery does that mean its all gone? My computer is brand new and I did a full scan on MSE and it didn’t find anything.

recently my computer started telling me my privacy is lost and that spyware is affecting my system. There is a large red warning sign that has come up as my background. I recently sold my computer through an auction site. Before it was sold I formatted the drives, then ran clean disk security (a hard drive deleter) many times (over 35 passes I believe). I then tested it to see if I could recover any files with programs I got over download.com and retrieved nothing. Tested it by deleting a file, then ran the recovery programs, and that file showed up; ran clean disk security and i could no longer recover it.

Would you say that my personal information is safe from the person I sold it to? Would there be any way for them to realistically retrieve my old files? Such as taking it to a data recovery center or tech support guys. Or do these cleaners really knock everything out?

Note: I remember finding something on the drive though – it was a folder of zeros that werent very big in file size.
Robert – yes, it’s already gone.

Adnan – so data recovery centers should be able to retrieve the files even though the drives free space was over written after formatting? I know it’s probably unlikely that the buyer would get data recovered for that price, but still knowing that all of my conversations with loved ones, credit card information and account passwords are there it makes me uneasy. My life was on that computer.

I am donating my old computers, and I want to erase EVERY TRACE of personal information, and all data, from my computers, with no possibility of recovery by those data recovery programs. I have been trying to find a good program to do this, but it seems like they all cost lots of money or aren’t good enough.
