Can you use the system recovery disks for one computer to reformat the hard disk of another computer?

The system recovery disks that come with a new PC can’t be used on a different PC. There are drivers for that PC that can’t be used on other PC’s. And in some cases the cd’s are coded for only that motherboard.
The manufactures do this to prevent illegal copies.
You can try to borrow someone’s Windows XP disc with bootable. Boot the system up with the disc in cd drive, follow the instructions to reformat or delete the partition.
